Teeth Extractions

“Going into the dentist to get a tooth extraction can sound intimidating. Our number one goal here at Mouritsen Dental is to help our customers feel as comfortable as possible no matter what service they come in for.”

It almost goes without saying: we all want to keep our natural teeth. As it turns out, dentists agree and do whatever possible to save their patients’ natural teeth. Unfortunately, that’s not always possible, which is why Dr. Mouritsen recommends teeth extractions for certain patients when no other alternative exists.

Tooth extractions may be necessary for a few reasons. It could be that a tooth has been severely decayed to the point that a root canal wouldn’t save the tooth. Gum disease can be another reason. If one or more teeth have become loose due to the effects of gum disease, there is typically nothing that can be done to save those teeth and extraction will be your best option. A tooth could also be in need of extraction if the patient has a crowded mouth. This means that his or her teeth are too large for the size of their mouth. Although not a common problem, it can be quite uncomfortable for patients who have this condition. In these cases, Dr. Mouritsen may recommend teeth extractions to make room for the remaining teeth. Lastly, for patients who have compromised immune systems, it’s better to extract teeth rather than risk a serious infection.
