Fillings

“Cavities are common in both children and adults. When a cavity is first noticed, it should be taken care of as quickly as possible in order to prevent further damage”
Fillings are used to fill in teeth that have cavities in order to restrengthen the tooth and prevent any further decay from occurring. Signs that indicate you may be in need of a filling include noticing dark spots on your teeth, frequent toothaches or sharp tooth pain, or sensitivity to temperature. Cavities are common in both children and adults. When a cavity is first noticed, it should be taken care of as quickly as possible in order to prevent further damage. If a cavity is not taken care of, you run the risk of weakening the tooth and having it chip or break which could cause the tooth to need a root canal.
At Mouritsen Dental, we are driven to provide each of our clients with the best results. We celebrate modern dental technology that has made getting a tooth filling simpler than ever before. Your comfort is our number one concern. Each member of our team is highly educated and experienced in their dental practices. Dr. Mouritsen and his team put a lot of effort into staying up to date on dental treatment and technology advancements so that you can benefit from the best solutions available.
When patients you come in to get a tooth filled by Dr. Mouritsen, we offer them a choice on the type of filling they would like to receive. Patients can choose between amalgam fillings or composite fillings. The advantage of composite fillings is that the material is tooth-colored. Because the material is not made of metal, we are able to mix shades in order to find the perfect match for your teeth. Composite fillings are great for fillings that need to be done on teeth that are easily visible and do a great job of supporting the structure of your tooth. The other choice of filling that we offer is amalgam fillings. These fillings are made of the silver amalgam material that you see in most traditional fillings. Because this material is so durable, it is an excellent choice for large cavities and teeth that do a lot of chewing. After a certain amount of time, the silver color of amalgam fillings will darken and start to look black. For this reason, a tooth-colored composite filling may sound more attractive than a silver amalgam filling. Though each material has it’s advantages, both will do a great job restoring the health your smile for years to come.
